After reviewing many of the websites I decided that I would write my essay on The Government Museum Art Gallery Chandigarh, India. While visiting the website I noticed that it stood out more than most of the websites. In their opening page they show a picture of what the museum looks like, but unlike other websites this site had the first page dedicated to some of the history of India and how they obtained a lot of these objects. “It is one of the premier institutions of India with a very rich collection of Gandharan sculptures, Pahari and Rajasthani miniature paintings. Before the partition in 1947, the collection of art objects, paintings, sculptures and decorative arts, were housed in the Central Museum, Lahore the then capital of Punjab”. This is just a portion of their opening into the history. When opening the webpage for the first time I noticed that it was quite easy to navigate through. The websites consist of six different parts, which are (About the Museum, Architecture, Sections, Infrastructure, Activities and Extensions). To the left hand side it gives a list of times, directors Desk’s and so on. I felt that this was a very good idea on how to set up a website, simply because it makes it so easy to navigate through.
While reviewing this website I found that the copyright stated that this site was created in 2005-2006. I also noticed that the website did not have a list of any specific author; however in the place of an author the site listed “The Government Museum and Art Gallery Chandigarh, India”. The URL is http://chdmuseum.nic.in/about_museum.html.
The one section that I was drawn to was the section dedicated to Dinosaurs. For some reason this section, which I cannot explain fascinated me more than the others. While reading the information about the dinosaurs of India I came across this “Many people are unaware of the fact that some of the first fossils were recognized as dinosaur fossils were discovered in India. In 1828, Captain William Sleeman found dinosaur fossils in Jabalpur cantonment, MP.” After reading this information I was unaware of this information. While growing up and doing reports on dinosaurs and the different time periods I never would have included India, simply because I had no idea that fossils existed in India. Another reason why I was so fascinated by the Dinosaur section was because of the present this portion of their museum. However the one thing that did not impress me was the picture that is placed on this portion of the website showing you what looks to be the Dinosaur exhibit. If you look at the photo it seems like nothing more than what you would have assembled in a childs room. The one major thing I would have to change about this exhibit is the way it is present and to make the animals more realistic and interactive with the people who come through.
In conclusion I felt as if this website was among the top that were listed. This website makes it easy for people to navigate through and not get a headache trying to find information about different things. I would recommend this website to anyone who needs information about India or its history.
